SAF! (which means “spicy” in Wolof) is a project whose goals are common with our own here at WGE: developing the world sustainably and improving the quality of life for women. Thanks to this project, women will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to produce, transform and market local spices which will replace the bouillon cubes that are massively used in daily cooking and not the healthiest given their high salt content.
WGE will see UDEFY, the union for the empowerment of women in Yoff, through each step towards the implementation of the spice transformation and marketing centre.
We will provide mentorship and, in cooperation with our Senegalese partners, will focus mainly on TRAINING, an essential part of any successful project.
Already, the Dakar Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture has offered an impressive workshop on good writing practices for business plans to 57 women who are part of the UDEFY.
Thanks to the financial support of the National Office for Professional Training, a spice production and transformation course is setting sail on March 2, 2021. Fifty or so women will have the chance to take this course which will be held at the Hotel and Restaurant Industry Professional Training Workshop (AFPHOR) in Ngor, under Chef Mamadou Aly Seck’s wing.
WGE would like to see a training on standardization added to the mix in order to ensure a consistent quality in offerings.
We are thrilled to be ambassadors of this wonderful project.
